An update on Spring curriculum planning for faculty.

Thank you so much for all of your efforts over the past few months as we have transitioned to more in-person instruction, and welcomed many of our students back to campus. As always, you have brought much resilience, compassion, and care to the teaching and learning environment. As students begin to register for the Spring term, there are a few important updates to share.

While a majority of the curriculum will be running this Spring in a hybrid mode, students unable to travel to Vancouver by January 4th are being advised to register for online classes only.

Faculty are not required to teach online-only students in a hybrid class. Many faculty have been exceedingly generous and accommodating this term, but this is unsustainable and places an additional burden on the teaching and learning environment. Students have a large number of online options to choose from, and Academic Advising will work with students to develop a curricular pathway as individual needs arise.

Additionally, students and faculty alike have been asking for more guidance on how much face-to-face curriculum should be included in a hybrid course. While each course may vary, please plan on incorporating a minimum of 50% in-person instruction into your course preparations. Students have been asking for more contact with faculty in their hybrid courses. So, feel free to plan the curriculum with higher access as you see fit.

Students have also received a message about this from Academic Advising. If you have any questions about the implications for your curriculum and course design, please reach out to your Dean.

Best,

Trish
