Zoom Replaces BlueJeans April 30, 2021

Here's what you need to know as ECU transitions between platforms.


Hello ECU Staff and Faculty,

On April 30, 2021, ECU will be retiring the Bluejeans videoconferencing service.

Zoom will become the university’s single videoconferencing platform.

IT Services is now ready to provide all faculty and staff with an ECU Zoom account, which will allow them to create and host their own Zoom meetings. Student ECU Zoom accounts will be available in Summer 2021.

What if I already have an ECU Zoom account?

If you already have an ECU Zoom account, you do not need to do anything.

For full functionality, make sure you have the latest version of the ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’ application. You can download this latest version from https://zoom.us/download. If your computer is a MacBook supplied by ECU, you can also use the Software Centre app.

Continue to log in to your ECU Zoom account from http://emilycarru.zoom.us. DO NOT sign into Zoom through the log-in page at www.zoom.us.

How do I create a new ECU Zoom account?

To create a new ECU Zoom account:

    • First, download the latest version of the ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’ application at https://zoom.us/download. When the application is launched, the following screen will appear:
      • Click on “Sign In with SSO” (circled in red, above). Once you have done so, the following "Sign In with SSO" pop-up window will appear:
      • PLEASE NOTE: If your pop-up window looks like the one below, please click on the “I know the company domain” link next to the “Continue” button, and it will take you to the “Sign In with SSO” window, as seen above.
      • Next, enter “emilycarru” into the “Your company domain” field, as circled in red, below:
      • Click “Continue.” You will be forwarded to ECU’s Single Sign On (SSO) portal, where you can use your ECU credentials to sign in. Signing in will launch a form titled “Information to be Provided to Service”:
      • The second option which reads, “Ask me again if information to be provided to this service changes” (circled above) should already be selected. If not, select it now. Click “Accept,” at the bottom right.
        This one-time consent is required as the final step to set-up your ECU Zoom account. This step ensures data used in ECU’s Zoom accounts is stored in Canada and meets FIPPA regulations.

      • You’re ready to use Zoom!
      What if I have video files stored on BlueJeans?

      If you have videos stored on BlueJeans' Cloud, you will need to download the videos to your computer before April 30.

      After that date, you will not be able to access the files.

      Are there any other changes to Zoom I should know about?

      All new ECU Zoom accounts are hosted on Canadian data centres, and meet FIPPA requirements. This enables us to implement a new feature “Cloud recording” which will be available for faculty and staff using ECU Zoom accounts.

      Cloud recordings are available for download from the Zoom platform for 90 days, after which they are deleted.

      How can I integrate Zoom with my Google calendar?

      You much first create an ECU-specific Zoom account before integrating Zoom with your Google Calendar.
