Search/Research: contemporary landscapes

Search/Research: Contemporary Landscapes
Saturday, April 5, 2008 - 2:00pm - Sunday, June 15, 2008 - 5:00pm

For hundreds of years, the Canadian landscape has been a prevailing subject for artists. Search/Research: contemporary landscapes focuses on diverse approaches artists take in searching and researching the landscape. Approaches range from David Pirrie's analysis of mountain terrain and Landon Mackenzie's (Associate Professor) exploration of history and geography, to Scott Massey's (03) interventions with nature in the urban environment and Blaine Campbell's (07) investigations into re-development projects such as those related to the 2010 Olympics.

On Saturday May 24 from 1pm-2:30pm be part of an intimate conversation with three artists exhibiting in Search/Research: contemporary landscapes at the Surrey Art Gallery. Join Blaine Campbell, Scott Massey and David Pirrie in the exhibition as they discuss the different strategies and research methodologies they use to consider the complex scientific, historical, social, political and environmental issues that affect our relationship to the landscape. Their approaches are represented through paintings, photographs, drawings and sculpture. This event is facilitated by exhibition curator Brian Foreman. Refreshments to follow. Free.
