Invent the Future Competition

For the third year, BC Hydro is pleased to announce the successful youth-driven online sustainability contest: Invent the Future. This contest is for youth aged 18 to 24* and is an ideal platform to get youth involved in actively shaping the future of their planet.

Youth are concerned about energy conservation; they believe it is important to them and to their future.  The contest inspires youth to take action and to recognize the strength of their voice. 

This year the contest will be held from September 8 to November 8, 2009. We are looking for ideas to foster a culture of conservation in BC, or on a new technology or innovative practice that results in energy efficiency.

  • Entries can be made in teams of two, or individually. Students can submit a video (30 to 60 seconds) or an essay (350 to 500 words).
  • Contestants can win one of four $2,500 grand prizes.
  • Voters have the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the 2010 Winter Games.
  • And, there will be four People's Choice Award Winners who will each receive a Mino HD Camcorder (retail value $340).
