The new Stereoscopic 3D (S3D) Centre of Excellence, officially announced in May 2010, is built around state-of-the-art cinematic capture and display technology.  Together with our partners which include Kerner Optical, Sony, Panavision, Cine-Tal, Fujinon, Codex, Everz, and Silicon Imaging, it will offer opportunities for both content producers and hardware/software manufacturers to get involved.

Starting in the Fall of 2010, the Centre will be offering workshops and classes on S3D theory and practice led by industry practitioners.  Opportunities to gain experience with the Kerner beam splitter rig, as well as handheld capture devices will be available through these classes.  The rigs will also be available for short-term rentals.

The S3D Centre is also hosting filmmaker-in-residence Michael Verity for a full year until July 2011.  During his stay, Micheal will develop new S3D work, teach workshops, and participate in S3D research projects involving Emily Carr Faculty and Students.  His studio and office space will be at street level in the Intersections Digital Studios Foyer.

The S3D Centre gratefully acknowledges funding support from Western Economic Diversification, Emily Carr University, and the NSERC-funded Social and Interactive Media (SIM) Centre.
