Don't Look Now Exhibition

Don't Look Now
Thursday, June 28, 2007 - 10:00am - Thursday, July 26, 2007 - 6:00pm

The Charles H. Scott Gallery is pleased to present Don't Look Now, an exhibition of new work by local emerging artists Angus Ferguson, Ron Tran, Curtis Grahauer, Christi Nyiri, and Miguel da Conçeicão.

The artists in Don't Look Now use the Charles H. Scott Gallery as source material and subject matter. While working for the CHSG as on-call exhibition preparators these artists have been producing works, both collaboratively and individually, that relate to the gallery and the functions of exhibition presentation. Historically artists have often performed the role of installation technicians within museums and galleries and as such they occupy a middle ground between the exhibiting artist and the institution. The significance of their role has been largely overlooked within the critique of museum and gallery practice despite the undeniable impact they exert on the public presentation of art works.

The exhibition title refers to the in-between time when a gallery is closed to the public for installation, a time when the artists in the exhibition interact with the gallery as both preparators and, in the case of this exhibition, as artists producing an array of works including installation, photography, video, drawing and sculpture.

Don't Look Now is curated by Cate Rimmer.
