Tales from the Snowpack

With a recent increase in the popularity of backcountry skiing and snowboarding, has come an increase in avalanche incidents. This increase can likely be attributed to people going out-of-bounds without proper training or knowledge.

Part of the problem is the lack of engaging avalanche awareness material currently on the market. As more young adults are venturing to the backcountry unprepared each winter, the need for a new approach to avalanche awareness that is readily accessible and incorporates a more interactive and engaging perspective becomes imperative.

I decided to address this issue with my first semester graduation project and came up with Tales from the Snowpack; an avalanche education tool for beginner backcountry skiers and snowboarder, with a visual aesthetic based on the action comic book in order to appeal to a young, energetic male audience.
