A Type Specimen Book featuring: Caslon, Nobel, & Electra

description

Project | Creat a twelve-page type specimen book, highlighting a series of three historically-important typefaces, from different historical periods in type design. The specimen must provide key historical information about these faces, and present each font in a historically appropriate manner, reflecting the way the type would have been used when it was first designed.

Approach | I selected three unique typefaces from three different periods. Beginning with Adobe Caslon from the Baroque period. Designed by William Caslon (1692-1722), it is defined as the the "typographical epitome of the English baroque period".
The second typeface is DTL Nobel, designed by Dutch designers Sjoerd Henrik de Roos & Dick Dooijes (1929-1935). It is a sans serif font from the Geometric period, with striking similarities to Futura and became a best seller well into the mid-1960s.
The third typeface is Linotypes Electra, designed by William Addison Dwiggins (1935-1949). Electra evokes the vigor and vitality of the early 20th century.
