A symbol gains meaning not through form but through intention. In photos of the Holocaust, one finds on deportation trains a forbidding manipulation of the Star of David. Used in this context, the symbol is modified and imbued with a merciless character. The tragic deformation the symbol’s original intentions evokes complex feelings and thoughts; the implications of such systematic usage suggested something far more unsettling.
