CEID 224: Introductory Model Making

Models are 3D mock-ups of designs created and tested prior to production. They can serve as the proof-of-concept, be subjected to ergonomic testing, or act as a sales tool. From concept development to material handling, this course introduces model-making using hand construction, and supports DIY or home studio practices. Using hand tools to manipulate standard block and sheet materials, students will learn fundamental mock-up and modeling techniques, including shaping, cut-away and add-on methods. Through guided and individual practice, students will design and create several projects suitable for portfolio. Basic hand-tool and sketching skills required.
