COMD 224 SU01: Typographic Comm:Grids&System
This course introduces fundamental concepts in grid layout, hierarchy, and typographic systems while introducing principles and practices addressing type on screens. Through exercises, projects and readings, students will develop their typographic skills in light of theories of communication design that have shaped typographic practices.

Celeste Martin is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Design and Dynamic Media at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She has an MFA in Design from the University of Iowa. Her background is in communication design and she specializes in typography and publication design. Her creative work examines the forms of written language, the shapes of letters and structures of text and their relationship to space. She is the editor of the award-winning Current, Emily Carr’s design research journal. Her current design research focuses on the development of enhanced interactive ebooks and the categorization of emerging formal structures in book design for touch-based mobile devices.
