DHIS 309: History of Japanese Design

This course will explore the influences of religion, aesthetics, geography, and politics on the development of Japanese design and applied arts. Both internal and "outside" international influences will be considered from earliest times to the present. The aim of the course is to promote an appreciation and understanding of Japanese design and culture and to broaden the concept of design and applied arts in Canada beyond current practice.
