DHIS 340: B.C. Design History

The history of British Columbia is rich in diversity with links to both the East and West. This survey of BC design history is an inclusive chronological and thematic presentation representing earliest times to present. This online course explores origins and current examples of BC design-applied arts across the Province. Video clips (Faces of BC Design) features key contributors (individuals and organizations) to design in BC. The course encourages greater awareness and acknowledgement of BC design and its makers. Communities, governments, non-profits organizations and industries noted for their influences and promotion of BC design will be discussed. The course will encourage greater understanding of both academic and popular theories of design and applied arts in BC.
