FNDT 154 S001: Performance
This course explores liveness as it relates to bodies in performance practices that engage technologies. Projects and technical workshops are augmented by critical methods, with examples by contemporary artists that explore an understanding of performing bodies as sensorial and social. The course explores the sonic, visual, and tactile capabilities of performance. The course includes critical thought on the relationship of performing bodies to social and culture forms, such as gender, race, animality, collaboration, and audience. Various platforms for performance, such as public, staged, web, and virtual may be explored. The course asks students to produce a set of experimental performances in both individual and group settings. No previous experience with performance required.

Zoë Kreye has produced collaborative community based projects, independently, collectively, and within institutional structures in Montreal, Vancouver, Berlin, New York and Istanbul. Her work looks to engage the public in relations beyond aesthetics, with the goal of building inclusive, bottom-up associations that have the potential to be small catalysts for change within dominant social systems. Often looking outside the realm of art, her projects take the form of clubs, workshops, adventures, discussions and social events. Each time the focus is put on making connections that encourage people towards self-reflection and a deeper engagement with society. In 2009, she completed a MFA at the Bauhaus University Weimar, specializing in community engagement and participatory strategies and cofounded the artist collective Process Institute. She is currently based in Vancouver and teaches studio and social practice at Emily Carr University of Art & Design.
