ILUS 303: Illustrating Literature

Students learn to interpret and illustrate literary works, from books for children to sophisticated stories for adults in magazines or books. The course encourages students to develop a variety of methods and ideas for expressing an author's writing in visual form, adding value to the story without becoming literal. Students learn to express mood, symbolize themes and use metaphor, simile, synecdoche and other forms of visual rhetoric to capture the author's intent and style.
