PHOT 201 SU01: Photography Essentials
This course introduces the basics of photography as an art form. Students will learn to operate both digital and analogue cameras, process film, and make and present prints. They will also learn to critique their own work and others' work as well as beginning to establish personal directions within the medium. Technical and conceptual assignments, darkroom and studio workshops, group critiques, and lectures/Audio Visual presentations introduce a range of approaches and processes, including analogue and digital applications. Cannot take if have taken FNDT 146.

PATRYK STASIECZEK is an LGBTQ visual artist living in Montréal. He holds an MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and a BFA from Concordia University. From 2014 - 2016 he was the director and co-curator of Gallery 295, an exhibition space in Vancouver, BC that focused on emerging photographic practices and discourses. He was recently a visiting full-time faculty member at Concordia University and sessional faculty position at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. His practice is located within re-framing the photographic as an iterative and transdisciplinary material that is oriented through the embodied arms of curation, education, installation, and subsequent documentation. He has exhibited nationally and abroad, showcasing work at Centre Clark (CA), and additionally at WAAP (CA), Soil Gallery (USA), Access Gallery (CA), Galerie Les Territoires (CA), Charles H. Scott Gallery (CA), Eastern Bloc (CA), FIELD Contemporary (CA), Interstitial (USA), and the FOFA Gallery (CA). A selected Canadian finalist for Flash Forward’s 2017 emerging photography competition, in 2015 he was nominated for Henry Art Gallery's BRINK award. His work was also featured as the cover for Hong-Kong based Pipeline Magazine’s 2014 Juried Photography Issue.
