PNTG 210 S001: Painting: Intermediate
A continuation of PNTG 200, this course encourages further development of the formal and technical aspects of both historical and contemporary painting practices. Assigned projects will acquaint students with an exploration of both traditional and non-traditional painting materials, as well as experimentation in deriving imagery from both an observed motif, and from processes of collage and abstraction. Classes combine discussions, reading, demonstrations, individual and group critiques.
Course content:
Beginning with a review of both formal and technical aspects of representational painting, this course will move quickly toward abstraction. Various models of abstract painting, both historical and contemporary will be explored through a series of assignments. Imaginative exploration as well as risk-taking will be considered as important as the development of technical competence in painting.
