Sleepscapes

description

There is a forgotten simplicity and serene beauty associated
with the transient, sleeping body. This project captures the
physical body in relation to the time spent in sleep. The concept
plays with the notion of sleep as a fleeting experience by means
of patterns or trails left behind in a sleeping time frame; these
patterns communicate the evidence of hours lost in memory in
congruence with the stationary body.

Sleepscapes is a series of blankets shaped as if there were
a body sleeping beneath it. The absence of the physical body
suggests the absence of the mental body having no conscious
presence. What remains is the shell or a mold of the sleeping
body captured in a moment in time. Each Sleepscape is a solid
form, but the bunching, rippling, and folds of fabric have an
organic quality to suggest movement. The material sustains a
landscape, a permanent form to evoke the immediacy of a still
moment.
