Cuneiform: Lamp and Book Display

description

The Cuneiform Light and Book Display were designed to celebrate and give value to the book as object of interaction and display within a bookshop setting. Using a non traditional method and material for display, Cuneiform is made of ceramic and its is made to show the inside of a book rather than the outside. This allows readers to engage with the book within a bookshop space in a new way. Through their interaction, the readers are in a sense curating the contents which are on display. The form was inspired by the simple geometry of an open book and the function is dictated through this form. The light provides a warm red tone, bringing a sense of comfort into the act of reading a book in a public space. The red tone is the result of a hand painted pattern in the inside of the lamp and book display, as a playful element of surprise. The pattern also reflects the simple geometry of an open book and this pattern is repeated throughout the piece, to communicate how it all fits together.
