Kinetic Architecture | Horizontal Spiral Staicase

The staircase is designed to separate a double height brewery space from the bar space below. This separation allows the brewery to function in the production of beer and spirits during the day, while running tastings, and tours of the brewery facilities on the second floor. In the evenings the staircase would retract separating the bar patrons from the brewing assets on the second floor while not obscuring them visually. While the stairs are in the up position they align with the contoured feed lines for the bar and vats forming a sculptural element at the end of the open atrium of the bar space.
