Displaced habitats references the form and scale of a piece of firewood. This form is conceived of through digital rendering and machine made cuts into manufactured wood. Through these processes the piece of wood takes on a new machine identity. The piece of firewood is re-presented as an artifact of manufacturing.

The clay cast of this artifact detaches itself both physically and contextually from its form. While the clay body records the digital form of the arifact, it erases its material and spacial form. This perspective of the humble piece of firewood becomes immortalized in clay.
