Social media and cell phone cameras have made documenting our daily lives common place. From the history of street photography, to self-portraits, to the ethics of documenting people in public spaces, this course exposes the many possibilities of photographic storytelling. Using compositional strategies, lighting techniques and perspective introduced in presentations and discussions, students will develop an eye for the 'decisive moment' using smart phones or digital cameras. With the city, its neighborhoods and public spaces as backdrop, discover approaches to visual storytelling and capture dynamic photographic moments. Led by a local artist and educator, this course offers self-guided or small-group tours, alongside virtual discussions.
