CEPH 202 SU01: Portrait Photography
Capturing a compelling portrait is an essential skill for any photographer. This practical and theoretical introductory course explores the history and evolution of photographic portraiture and techniques used for producing a compelling, contemporary portrait, including location, lighting, composition, emotion and technical settings. This course will include the use of natural and studio lighting to convey personality and emotion, with the opportunity to photograph your own subjects. This course is suitable for beginner and practicing photographers using both analog and digital cameras. This course does not include darkroom access.

CEPH 100 Introductory Digital Photography is strongly recommended

Internationally published photographer and exhibiting artist. Receiving her BFA (Photo) and MAA (Visual Arts) from ECUAD and a Master of Professional Studies in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York NY where she received the 2013 Educator Scholarship.
Recent group exhibitions include New York NY, London UK, Saint Rémy de Provence France, Leiden Netherlands, Minneapolis MN, Denver CO, Vancouver BC and Ottawa ON.
Winner of the Canada National Award at the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards.
Recent solo exhibitions, Tattoos & Scrimshaw: the Art of the Sailor at the Vancouver Maritime Museum (2013), the Maritime Museum San Diego (2014), the Los Angeles Maritime Museum (2015) and the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (2016) and A Sailors Life for Me at the Maritime Museum San Diego (2016-17).
Kathryn has been an instructor of photography, digital media and visual arts at Arts Umbrella, Focal Point and currently at ECUAD.
