CSIL 112 SU01: Character Concepts
Character concepts are used in a wide range of visual media and industries, from graphic novels and comic books to video games and animation. Apply your illustration and storytelling skills to capture the personality, essence and story of a character from archetype to storyboarding in this pivotal illustration course. Through assignments, case studies and presentations, you will learn a range of processes, methods and techniques used by contemporary concept artists to generate memorable characters. Guided through prompts and step by step instruction, this course will provide you with skills to both follow a preexisting creative vision or design brief and develop your own unique character concepts.

Hi! I’m Stephanie and I’m an illustrator.I also write stories and teach classes.
I aspire to make comics for middle grade and young adult readers. I unabashedly love action-packed adventure stories and tales about young protagonists tackling issues well beyond their years. I’m working on 1-3 novels + graphic novels simultaneously at any given time, including a favoured project about teenage telepaths.
I have a BFA in Illustration from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (2019) and also, just to keep you guessing, a BA in Economics from the University of British Columbia, Okanagan (2014). Somewhere between those two, I lived and worked in rural Japan where I first picked up shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and have since won many silver and gold medals in competitions.
