CUXD 204 SU01: Professional Practices
This course explores professionalism, networking and communication in relation to designer roles and teams. From copywriting and communication, to interviews and presentations, a professional designer should demonstrate respect for the profession, for colleagues, for clients, for audiences or consumers, and for society as a whole. Students will identify job opportunities and roles within the UX industry, implement organizational tools for project management, and develop best practices for self-promotion. Whether working in a small or mid-size design studio, to more independent roles, students will gain important skills and strategies for demonstrating professionalism, resilience and capacity.

Pauline is a freelance designer specializing in cross-cultural design in both print and web development since 2000. Born in Hong Kong, she studied in the US and immigrated to Vancouver, has gained her a better insight into the convergence of Eastern and Western cultures.
With her BBA in marketing, her design emphasizes problem solving and is highly results-orientated. She currently works with various studios/startup on brand strategy, web development and much more.
Pauline is a member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) and and has held the the positions of VP of Web Communications Chair for the GDC/BC Chapter for the last 6 years.
