FNDT 160 S006: Core Media Studio I: Anim+fmsa
This studio course provides a core experience in media. It introduces students to vocabularies, techniques, and methodologies of photography and media arts, including aspects of video, sound, performance, and multi-media installation. Through workshops and in-class studio sessions, discussions, and critiques students will explore a range of approaches and processes that form the basis of media arts. This course will emphasize content, creative process, research, and critical issues in photography and media arts practices, in conjunction with the acquisition of basic technical skills.

As a animation-filmmaker and visual artist, Jay White’s installations have exhibited internationally, and his short films have won awards internationally.
He is currently working on his next short film - Microcosmology, a fantastical psychadelic animation where the protagonists are petrochemicals, plastic, insects and other sea-borne invertebrates.
He is also working on a nonfiction graphic novel about wild salmon and salmon farms, as part of a larger collaboration with artist Jenni Schine called Field Guides for Listeners. Jay and Jenni have been spending time at the Salmon Coast Field Station in Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw Territory (Broughton Archipelahgo) to interview scientists and participate in fieldwork, as part of their research.
Recent projects include animation work on Nettie Wild's UNINTERRUPTED projection (2017), a solo show at Modern Fuel in Kingston (2017), and an installation and performance in Amish Morell’s Outdoor School group exhibition (2016).
His animated films have won many awards, including Best Animated Short at the Worldwide Animation Festival and others. His films have shown at internationally recognized festivals including TIFF, the Stuttgart Trickfilm Festival, and Hiroshima. His film Boar Attack was longlisted for a Best Animated Short Academy Award nomination. Jay also has an ongoing career as a storyboard artist, story editor, and animator for television, live performance and independant film.
His visual work has shown across Canada and internationally, including the Istanbul Design Biennale, the National Arts Centre, and the University of Glasgow.
Jay is indigenous to Ktaqamkuk (Newfoundland). He lives on Nex̱wlélex̱m / Bowen Island and is a proud father.

Allison Hrabluik is an artist and filmmaker living in Vancouver. She completed graduate studies at the HISK in Gent, Belgium, in 2007, and received her BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1999. Working primarily with video, animation, drawing and installation, Allison's work has been shown in exhibitions and film festivals internationally.
