ILUS 202: Illustration: Iconography

In this course students continue to develop and broaden their illustration skills and their understanding of cultural context. The focus is upon the symbolic resonance of images. Various strategies will be employed to explore the capacity of representation to persuade, promote, celebrate, question, or criticize. A range of source material will be examined, from ads to culture-jamming, from commemoration to caricature, and from protest to propaganda. Students learn conceptual approaches to problem solving as they apply to both professional practices in print communication and contemporary painting and drawing practices.

Priority is given to CRCP and VIAR students in Year 2. Students outside of the registration priority group may register/waitlist for this course as of the registration rule release date.
