ILUS 202: Illustration: Iconography

In this course students continue to develop and broaden their illustration skills and their understanding of cultural context. The focus is upon the symbolic resonance of images. Various strategies will be employed to explore the capacity of representation to persuade, promote, celebrate, question or criticize. A range of source mater will be examined, from ads to culture-jamming, from commemoration to caricature, and from protest to propaganda.
