The symposium, chaired by Dr. Monique Fouquet, will include speakers Diyan Achjadi, Lucie Chan, Roman Izdebski, Beth Howe, David MacWilliam, Elizabeth MacKenzie, Ben Reeves, Vjeko Sager, Durwin Talon, Renée Van Halm, and Neil Wedman.

Reading | Writing | Culture: Liminal Positions

This year’s conference seeks to gauge and engage the current state of Canadian academic research across the fields of art, history, philosophy, critical and cultural studies. Presenting critical and creative explorations into the potentially rich contradictions inherent in criticizing culture while earnestly taking part in producing it.

Liminal Positions aims to provide a forum for the notion of “in-betweenness”. Asking where the “work” of art actually occurs and considering the role of the artist within commodity culture. And conversely, how cultural analysts have approached writing to theorizing popular culture or current events.
