Guido van der Werve - Minor Pieces | Charles H. Scott Gallery

The Charles H. Scott Gallery presents Minor Pieces, an exhibition of two film works by Guido van der Werve: "Nummer zes: Steinway grand piano. Wake me up to go to sleep and all the colors of the rainbow" (2006) and "Nummer twaalf variations on a theme: The King’s Gambit accepted, the number of stars in the sky, and why a piano can’t be tuned or waiting for an earthquake" (2009).

A series of related photographs will also be included in the exhibition.

Stories in Reserve | Book Launch at READ Books

READ Books at the Charles H. Scott Gallery invites you to a reception for the launch of Stories in Reserve the first volume in a series of audio guide books published by Temporary Travel Office. US-based artists Lize Mogel and Ryan Griffis will be in attendance.

The series features original guided tours created by artists, activists, historians and storytellers that span from polemic narrative to experimental soundscape. Taking its title from 20th Century scholar Michel de Certeau’s “The Practice of Everyday Life”, the series will attempt to engage with “fragmentary and inward-turning histories, pasts that others are not allowed to read.”

Thomas Glassford | Stela 1K

In conjunction with celebrations marking the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution, the Charles H. Scott Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Hot to Cold | Cold to Hot, an exhibition of contemporary Mexican artists. The exhibition features the work of Los Angeles-based Rubén Ortiz Torres, and Mexico City-based artists Thomas Glassford, Melanie Smith, and Gabriel de la Mora.

The work of these internationally recognized artists addresses concerns of the everyday, popular culture, urbanism, and the body. Although abstract and minimalist in nature the works reference complex issues of Mexican identity, place, and culture.

The Western Front, REV, and READ Books at the Charles H. Scott Gallery are pleased to present the launch of Recipes for an Encounter. The book takes its impetus from Kits for an Encounter, an earlier exhibition co-curated by Candice Hopkins and Marisa Jahn that explored artist-made “kits” designed to instigate an encounter. Recipes for an Encounter functions as both a curatorial extension of the exhibition and a catalyst for other encounters.
