EMILY CARR UNIVERSITY OF ART + DESIGN ANNOUNCES 2014 HONORARY DOCTORATE AND EMILY AWARD RECIPIENTS

Vancouver, BC April 24, 2014 | Emily Carr University of Art + Design will honour multimedia artist, curator and arts advocate, Hank Bull; celebrated visionary architect Arthur Gensler; visual artist, curator, and scholar, Gerald McMaster; and entrepreneurs, business leaders and philanthropists, Chip and Shannon Wilson at the 2014 Convocation Ceremony to be held May 3, 2014. Each will receive a Doctor of Letters for their significant accomplishments and contributions to arts and culture. The 2014 Emily Award, acknowledging outstanding achievements by alumni, will be granted to internationally acclaimed visual artist Etienne Zack.

NATURAL CAPITAL is a community projects course in partnership with Canada's leading environmental organization, the David Suzuki Foundation (DSF) through the Faculty of Culture + Community. Through a dynamic and collaborative approach to documentary practices, students aim to build meaningful community connections and create digital narratives featuring diverse community perspectives on nature's benefits in Vancouver.  Students have also had a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with national project partners at OCAD University, Toronto.

Germaine Koh | League

As one of seven new residencies in the Vancouver Park Board Field House Studio Residency Project, sessional faculty Germaine Koh is launching the new community-based project League at Elm Park in Vancouver-Kerrisdale. League will be an open weekly gathering for the purpose of playing sports and games invented by members of the community. Each game, its playing field and its strategies will evolve through trial and improvisation, and new and unusual equipment may be invented.
