How to use the Self-Serve Printers
Please note that you must be connected to ECU wifi in order to use on-campus printers.
Please note: As of iOS 17.4.1, we have successfully printed images from "Photos". Currently, you will need to authenticate every time you print an image from your mobile device. You still are able to print from your apple mobile devices when running iOS 16.x.x but please do not try printing images (jpeg, Tiff, PNG, etc) if you are on iOS 17.0.0 to 17.4.0.
As an alternative, you can airdrop your files to a desktop Mac computer. Thank you
Getting Started
Your ECU OneCard should automatically work at all Self-Serve printers on campus! If your card doesn't work when you tap it on the reader, you may need to link your card to your account. See instructions below:
1. Touch the screen on the printer if the screen is black, or tap your ECU OneCard to the card reader on the right side of the screen.
2. First time users may be prompted to associate (link) their ECU OneCard to their account. You will only do this once and then your card will work at all self-serve ECU printers.
3. Enter your MyEC credentials.
4. Press Associate, and you will get a confirmation that your card is associated with the school's printers. If you get an error, tap your card again and re-enter your correct MyEC credentials.
5. Now you can tap your ECU OneCard on the card reader again to login and use the printer!
You can access your ECU print (PaperCut) account by going to print.ecuad.ca and logging in using you MyEC credentials.
Here you can track all your print history, transactions, and can cancel jobs you currently have queued up - or even transfer funds.
You can also request a refund on a print job that may have printed out wrong. It may have gone wrong due to machine or computer error.
On the left menu bar of your account just go into the Recent Print Jobs tab. Then find the recent print job you're wanting to request a refund on. On the far right you will see a request refund link. Click on that.
You will then be brought to the refund request page where you will need to fill out the required information and reason for your request. Please note that refunds will only be approved for errors that are beyond your control. So make sure your are selecting the right settings when sending your print job. Never print straight from a web browser. Always download your file and print from an appropriate application.
We've streamlined the process for faculty members to conveniently print directly from your computers to the mailroom printers/copiers.
Permanent Faculty:
For ECU-issued computer users, the printer, named "MailRoom BW Laser" is automatically available and listed.
In case it's not visible, you can find the necessary update to run in the Software Center application.
Non-permanent Faculty:
If you're using a non-issued (personal) computer, simply access, download and run the Faculty Printing Installer. You can locate this installer in the My Bookmarks tab on your MyEC Faculty landing page.
If you have already installed the Faculty Printer Installer in the past - you can find the necessary update(s) to run in Software Center.
Before initiating the printing process, ensure you're connected to the ECUAD Wifi. Not ECUAD_Guest or eduroam. The printing servers will not connect from those two. Additionally, if you're using a VPN other than the ECUAD VPN, you will not be able to print.
When you're ready to print, open your document using the relevant application and access the print window. Choose "MailRoom BW Laser" as your designated printer and adjust the print settings as necessary
After clicking the print command, a pop-up window will prompt you to enter your MyEC credentials.
Then you will get a Print Job Notification pop-up, where you will navigate down to Print job actions and opt to Charge to shared account using PIN/Code. Then enter your department's PIN/Code. Avoid selecting Charge to personal account, as this may lead to complications. If uncertain, reach out to your department head for the correct PIN/Code.
Please don’t select Charge to personal account as this will cause complications. Contact your department head for the correct PIN/Code.
After clicking print you can tap your card at any of the two printers in the mailroom. Then you can tap Print Release and select the print job(s) that you sent. Then press print.
To print from your Apple mobile devices, such as your iPhone or iPad, follow these simple steps:
Ensure that you are connected to the campus Wi-Fi network, specifically the networks named, ECUAD-Student or ECUAD. Printing will not work if you are connected to the ECUAD_Guest or eduroam. If you're using a VPN other than the ECUAD VPN, you will not be able to print while connected to that VPN.
Make sure the document or photo you intend to print is downloaded onto your device. Do not print directly from web browsers, as this will lead to issues.
We recommend downloading the M365 app, logging in using your ECU credentials, and opening/printing your documents with the app. Adobe, Microsoft and native iOS applications have been tested to work.
Once you have your document open, locate and tap the share icon, then select "Print" from the options.
In the print menu, select your printer (either print colour or print bw).
Adjust the number of copies, choose between grayscale or color printing, and select the appropriate paper size. Note that the default paper size on Apple devices is "Monarch," but for our laser printers on campus, please select either "Letter" or "Tabloid" as these are the only available sizes.
After clicking print, you will be prompted to log in using your myEC credentials. Once you do this, your login information will be saved on your device, eliminating the need to log in repeatedly.
In most instances, the first print attempt will not display the option for paper size. If this occurs, simply proceed by pressing print and then re-entering the print menu, where the paper size option should now be available.
Bear in mind that mobile devices utilize driverless printing, which means that you will not have post-adjustment options for your document at the printer. Therefore, ensure that you have selected all your desired options correctly beforehand.
Optionally, you can log into your PaperCut account via print.ecuad.ca to access all your account details and verify that the job has been sent.
Laser Printers
Acrobat
Printing from Acrobat to the self-serve laser printers?
Save out Illustrator, InDesign and Word documents as a PDF. Opening your PDFs in Acrobat is a great way to proof your files before printing.
NOTE! Download PDF files to the computer and then open it with Acrobat, NOT Preview. Make sure you do not print directly from a web browser.
Here are some guidelines to follow in order to successfully print your pages.
1. Be aware of the size of the pages you want to print and if you will need to scale the pages in the Print menu in order to fit it to the size of the paper you want to print on.
2. Be aware of the orientation of your pages; the orientation in this example is portrait.
3. Be aware of the number of pages in your PDF file.
4. Once you have proofed your PDF file and you are ready to print; go to File at the top of the window and select Print from the pop-up menu.
You are now in the Print window.
5. In the Print window, start by selecting the laser printer you want to print to from the pull-down menu in Printer.
NOTE! If you are printing from a laptop and you notice that the printer you want to print to is not listed, re-install the printers to your laptop.
If this does not work, contact the IT Service Desk.
a. If you are printing to the "Any BW Laser Printer on Campus" select "Print in grayscale (black and white)"
b. If you are printing to the "Any Colour Laser Printer on Campus" Do Not Select "Print in grayscale (black and white)"
6. Once you have selected the correct printer, click the Advanced button.
You are now in the Advanced Print Setup window.
7. In the Advanced Print Setup window, select Color Management from the menu on the left side of the window.
8. In the Color Handling pull-down list, select Acrobat Colour Management
8a. If you are printing to the "Any Colour Printer on Campus" you will want to select the "Coated FOGRA39 (ISO 12647-2:2004)" in order to get the best colours from the printer.
* If you are printing to the "Any BW Printer on Campus" you will want to select the "Gray Gamma 2.2".
click the OK button located at the bottom-right of the window.
You are now in the main Acrobat window.
From the main Acrobat “Print” window, click Page Setup... located at the bottom-left of the window.
9. In the Page Setup window, start by verifying that the correct printer is displayed in the Format For drop-down list. If not, select the printer you want.
10. In the Paper Size drop-down list, you will have the paper sizes that are available from the printer you chose to print to. Choose one of these paper sizes to print on.
NOTE! Do not select Manage Custom Sizes and create a custom paper size.
If you select or create a paper size that is not available in the printer you have chosen to print to, the file will not print.
Once the Page Setup window has been properly set up, click OK to return to the Print window.
In order to print your files using the ECU Self-Serve printers, you will be prompted to log in to your account (use your myEC login) once you have sent your file to a printer. Please remember that you can only print when you are logged on the secure campus Wi-Fi, or when you are using a campus computer!
1. Send your file from your computer to the printer. Choose a printer name based on if you are printing black and white, or colour - once you send your file, you can then print it at any of the Self-Serve laser printers on campus!
2. Wait for a moment - an alert will pop up requesting you log in to your account.
3. Sign in using your myEC credentials.
*Note: on public computers, we suggest selecting 'Remember: 1 minute'
4. An alert will pop up letting you know that your file has been sent to the campus print system. Time to find a printer!
5. At the printer, log in by tapping your ECU OneCard on the card reader.
* Note: if you do not have your ECU OneCard, you can login by typing your myEC username and password using the on-screen keyboard.
6. Select Print All, or press Print Release to print specific files.
7. Select your file(s)
8. Press Print to print or the trash can to delete.
9. Press Log out in the top right corner when you are done printing.
InDesign
Printing from InDesign to the self-serve laser printers? Here are some guidelines to follow in order tosuccessfully print your pages.
1. Make sure there are “No errors”. If you have missing fonts, the printer will either not print your file or convert the missing fonts to a default system font like Times New Roman and will re-flow your text blocks.
2. Go to File and Document Setup to review your document elements
3. In Document Setup, check the number of pages in your document to make sure it will work for your printing intent.
4. Check the page size of your document in inches and determine if you will have to scale your document to fit it to your intended paper size.
5. Is your document set up as portrait or landscape?
6. Did you set up the content in any of your pages to bleed or does every page have a white margin of at least .25 inches? If you are bleeding content on any of the pages in your document, did you set up your Bleed settings for .125” and do the components that bleed go out to the bleed margin?
7. Once you have re-familiarized yourself with your document setup, click OK to return to the main window.
You are now back in the main window.
8. Now that you are ready to print, go to File at the top of the window and select Print from the drop-down list.
9. Select General from the list on the left in the Print window.
10. From the Printer drop-down list, choose the laser printer that you want to print with.
Note! Each printer can only print to the size of paper that has been preloaded in it, therefore be familiar with the paper sizes loaded in each laser printer.
11. In Copies, even if you want to print multiple copies of your file, it is recommended that you print only one copy first so that you can have a printed copy to proof before committing to multiple copies.
12. In Pages set up whether you are printing All the pages in your document or a select number ofpages.
13. You must select whether you are printing the pages from your document as a Page (one page on aside of a piece of paper), or as Spreads (two pages side by side on one side of a piece of paper)
14. Choose Print Blank Pages when you have purposefully made blank pages in your document.
15. Click Page Setup to continue.
You are now in the Page Setup window.
16. In Page Setup re-select the printer in the Format For from the pull-down list that you chose toprint with in the Print/General menu .
17. In the Paper Size pull-down list, only the papers available in the printer you are choosing to printwith will be displayed. Pick the paper size that you want to print on.
Note! If the size you want to print to is not available, you will have to choose a different printer or scaleyour document to fit to the available paper size.
18. If you are printing Pages (one page per side of a single sheet of paper), select either portrait orlandscape orientation. If you created your document in portrait orientation and want to print Spreads (two pages side by side per side of a single sheet of paper), select the landscape orientation.
19. Click OK to continue.
You are now in the Print window.
20. Select Setup from the list on the left in the Print window.
21. If your document pages are smaller or the same size but with no bleed as the available paper size, setScale to 100% in Width and Height. If your document pages are larger than the available paper size or the document page size is the same as the paper size but you have bleed, choose Scale To Fit.
22. Unless you have a good reason to select one of the other choices, always choose Centred as the method of printing your document on the paper.
23. Select Marks and Bleed from the list on the left in the Print\ window.
24. If your document pages are smaller or the same size as the printer paper but you set up your document with bleed, select Crop Marks and make sure Offset is set to 0.0833 inches. If your document page size is the same size as the printer paper and you have white margins on all the pages, do not select any of the Marks options.
25. If you set a bleed value in Document Setup when you created your document originally, select Use Document Bleed Settings. If you did not set up a bleed value in Document Setup when you created your document originally but you did design your document with proper bleeding, choosingUse Document Bleed Settings will have no effect, you should instead deselect Use Document BleedSettings and enter the bleed value of .125 inches manually for all for sides.
26. Click Printer to continue.
27. If your project is double sided click where it says Double-Sided.
28. Next select "On" if your pages flip on the Long-Edge or "On (Short Edge)" if your pages flip on the Short-Edge.
29. Click Print to continue.
30. Click on Color Management menu in the left of the Print window.
31. In the Color Handling: menu, select "Let InDesign Determine Colors".
32. Next in Printer Profile: select "Coated FOGRA39 (ISO 12647-2:2004".
* If you are printing to the "Any BW Printer on Campus" you will want to select the "Gray Gamma 2.2".
33. Click Print to send the file to the print queue.

Inkjet Printers
Photoshop
Printing from Photoshop to the self-serve inkjet printers? Here are some guidelines to follow in order tosuccessfully print your images.
1. From the Printer Setup drop-down list in the Photoshop Print Settings menu, choose the printer you want to print to.
2. From the Color Handling drop-down list, select Printer Manages Colors.
3. Normal Printing should be selected.
4. From the Rendering Intent drop-down list, select Relative Colorimetric.
5. Click on the Print Settings button once the above settings have been chosen.
6. In the Print Setting window, start by verifying that the correct printer is displayed in the Printer drop-down list. If not, select the printer you want.
7. In the Paper Size drop-down list, you will have two options to set the paper size for your image.
7a. The first and simplest option is to select one of the six available preset sizes. If one of these sizes hasa paper length that is equal to the height of your image or is marginally longer, choose this as your papersize.
7b. If the six preset options are either too short or too long, choose the option of Manage CustomSizes and create your own custom paper length for your image.
7b1. When creating your own paper size, first click on the “+” button.
7b2. It is important to label your new paper size and it is highly recommended that you label it thefollowing way: Width (maximum printable width for the printer) x Height (length of media required to fityour image + .5 inches extra).
7b3. It is extremely important that you select the correct self-serve inkjet printer from the Non-PrintableArea drop-down list as this sets up the correct printer margins.
7b4. In the Paper Size window boxes, the Width is the maximum printable width for the printer andshould not be adjusted.
In the Length window box, change the maximum paper length to the length yourequire for your image + .5 inches extra.
The sizes in the Paper Size width and height window boxesshould be the same as the name you created for your custom paper size. Once this is done, click Save.
8. From the selection list displaying Layout choose Color Matching.
8a. In the Color Matching window, select the radial button In printer (8b.) and click Save.

Acrobat
Printing from Acrobat to the self-serve inkjet printers? Here are some guidelines to follow in order to successfully print your images.
1. Check to see if you need to rotate the page in order to fit the image to the maximum printable widthof the paper loaded in the printer. In this example, the image is 22.03 inches wide and 16.5 inches hightherefor we will want to rotate the image to fit on a roll with a maximum 16.5 inches wide.
2. To rotate a page, select the Tools tab at the top of your window and choose Organize Pages.
3. In the Organize Pages window, select the page you want to rotate by clicking on it.
3a. click on the clockwise or counter clockwise arrows in the menu bar to rotate the page.
3b. Click the X button in the top-right side of the menu bar to close the Organize Pages window andreturn to the main Acrobat window.
Once your file is ready to print, go to the menu at the top of the Acrobat window and select File and then Print.
4. From the Printer drop-down list in the Acrobat’s Print window, choose the printer you want.
4a. After selecting the printer, click “Advanced” to set up the file’s colour management.
5. In the Advanced Print Setup window, select Color Management from the menu on the left side ofthe window.
6. In the Color Handling pull-down list, select Same As Source (No Color Management) and thenclick the OK button located at the bottom-right of the window.
From the main Acrobat Print window, click Page Setup located at the bottom-left of the window.
