What is M365?

Microsoft 365 Office (formerly known as Office 365) brings together apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and gives each user 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage.

Who can use M365?

Microsoft 365 is available for free to all Emily Carr University students who are in an active program and have an @ecuad.ca email address.

How to use M365 online

Are you accessing M365 for the first time?

All Emily Carr students with an ECU email account are provided with M365 accounts. Please review our M365 Terms of Service.

Sign in by going to Microsoft 365

1. Select Sign in.

On the sign-in page enter your MyEC username in username@ecuad.ca format.


2. On the SSO (Single Sign-On) page, enter your MyEC password.
Make sure you enter your MyEC password, not your email password! Then click Sign In.

3. You are now logged in to M365!

How to download M365 to your computer

You can download Office 365 applications to your Mac or PC.

1. Sign into Microsoft

2. Find the "Install apps" dropdown menu located in the top right corner.

3. Click on "Install Office".

How to use M365 on your mobile phone

You can download and install the free mobile Office apps from the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), or Windows Store (Windows Phone).

Once you have downloaded them, you will be prompted to sign in with your MyEC credentials the first time you launch the app.

Emily Carr University does not provide any direct training support for these applications. MS Teams and SharePoint sites are only available to staff and faculty by department approval.

Emily Carr’s M365 Office for students is currently a pilot project and the data retention policy is under development.

FAQs

How do I access M365 on a shared computer?

To keep your files secure, it is recommended that you access M365 through a browser, rather than using any installed applications on the computer you are using. See the How to use M365 online section above, and please ensure that you log out after accessing your files.

I'm having trouble logging in.

To log in to the M365 applications online, make sure you are using your MyEC username followed by @ecuad.ca, along with your MyEC password.

Can I use M365 on my phone?

Yes! You can download and install the free mobile Office apps from the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), or Windows Phone Store (Windows Phone). You will then be prompted to sign in with your @ecuad.ca email the first time you launch the app.

Can I use the Outlook application for accessing my emails?

Yes. The Outlook application can be used for sending and receiving emails. Please download the Outlook application by following the instructions here.

Once you have downloaded Outlook, please follow the instructions for Windows setup or Mac setup

How long is my M365 Office license valid for?

Once you are no longer an ECU student, your ECU M365 account will become invalid after 120 days.

Note: Under the terms of Microsoft’s License Agreement, you are obligated to uninstall Microsoft applications when you are no longer eligible to receive Microsoft 365 for free.

Does M365 come with cloud storage?

Yes! Once you enrol in the M365 services, you will have access to up to 1TB of storage on OneDrive.

How do I install M365 on my university-managed device?

Microsoft 365 applications should be pre-installed on your device. Please contact our assigned device experts in IT Service Desk for any software inquiries or installations.

On how many devices can I install M365?

Each subscription license allows you to install M365 on up to five devices including computers, tablets and smartphones.
