Alexandra Phillips
Bio
Alexandra Phillips' practice focuses on the merging of art and anthropology. She holds an MFA in Sculpture and an MA in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Washington. Her research in anthropology examined the New Age appropriation of Native American spiritual practices, the role of comedy in social regeneration, and issues in representation. She is also a former illustrator for CBC and CTV News.
Her work has been exhibited across the US and Canada. A recipient of Canada Council and BC Arts Council grants, she has received numerous awards including the Collector's Award at the International Sculpture Competition in Golden, Colorado, and First Place at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. Represented by The Drawing Center in New York, Alexandra teaches Drawing, Sculpture, Creative Processes, and The Artist as Ethnographer. Alexandra can often be found clashing sticks with the Bowen Island Black Sheep Morris Dancers.
