I hold a BFA in Visual Art from Emily Carr University and a MFA from the University of Guelph. I have worked as a sessional instructor at Emily Carr University since July 2012, teaching both introductory and intermediate level painting courses. In the classroom, I draw on my technical skills as a painter and my invested interest in painting’s history and theory.
My artistic research is focused on the connection between visual art and literature wherein literary forms become a lens for viewing painting. My paintings are inspired by works of fiction, specifically books dealing with themes of masquerade and deception. Recently, my painted subjects have come to include exotic taxidermied creatures. Taxidermy can be understood to mean "the arrangement of skin." I choose to consider painting in a similar way, as a kind of surface disguise that revels in the power inherent in masquerade.
