Rotterdam 2057

description

This began as a cover design for the publication, Rotterdam 2057. That publication was about trying to imagine what the world would look like in the year 2057 and was largely based on vague data sets and personal beliefs. Therefore, the visual style I developed for it was equally so. Using ink blotches as inspiration, I created an image that can be interpreted in a variety of different ways - an emulation of how we can perceive the future as either a nightmare or a dream.

For its presentation in a gallery space, I used a red pen to highlight all the symmetrical inconsistencies that I could find. The image was not mirrored, which caused these discrepancies and rather than pretend like they wren't there, it was more interesting to call attention directly to them.
