Roam

description

For many the appel of bicycle touring comes from the simplicity and independence of biking from one destination to the next. As cyclists tracel forward, constantly exploring new and unknown territory, they rely on a steady stream of information to find food, water, lodging and safe routes, all of which are vital to making a bike tour run smoothly. For many cyclists manu of these details are left uncertain due to the lack of specific information surrounding a route, town or region.

The goal of my grad project, entitled Roam, is to provide potential and experienced tourists with access to information to create the most successful route possible, therefore improving the overall tour experience.

The web site includes several features to educate riders as well as providing them with supportive network of resources. The main feature is an interactive, map-based, trip planner used to inform riders as the plan their trip. Once a rider has defined there route, they can choose to share their route through their profile, allowing other riders to inform their next tour based on other's experiences. Lastly, there is a companion blog, used to share important information on touring, such as, what to bring on a tour and tips on bicycle self repair. The blog will also include tour stories that can be submitted by users to share with the online community.
