Created with the artists’ field recordings of bird and insect communications in Fillongley Park, and Andreyev's theremin accompaniment, Biophilia proposes a more-than-human relational soundscape. The contributions from raven, crow, robin, flicker, cricket individuals are treated here as communications—calls presenting opportunities for responses. Granular synthesis techniques, such as durational treatments, were applied to each call to generate changes in texture and rhythm over time. The resulting variations sequenced over the arc of the sonic field create opportunities for re-hearing details in each bird and insect communication. Andreyev's theremin accompaniment presents responses to these calls, forming sonic patterns of ecological relating between players in the forest.
