Master Class with Filmmaker and Animator Ann Marie Fleming

Filmmaker and Animator Ann Marie Fleming Master Class Monday March 8 4pm 406SB

Ann Marie Fleming will provide a master class on the development and production of her animated feature film Window Horses. Funding strategy, including an Indigogo funding campaign, negotiating with name actors (Sandra Oh and Ellen Page), working with a team of animators, and working on a project of this scope will also be discussed.

Ann Marie Fleming graduated from Emily Carr Animation with Honours in 1989 and has since developed an international reputation for her films and animations, and her persona 'stick girl'.

The Commons SP16: Health, Wellness, Resilience

For one week each semester, Emily Carr's Concourse Gallery is transformed into the Commons. Part prototype, part program, The Commons is made up of a kit of modular parts, including spatial, temporal, and creative resources, intended to cultivate dynamic spaces for teaching, learning, and social gathering. This semester, the focus is on developing skills for success and resilience through health and wellness. Expect free breakfast all week, crafts, interactive activities, clubs showcase, lounge spaces, Zumba, Happy Healthy Hour and much more! Find all the event details on The Playlist.

Book Launch | The Everyday Practice of Public Art: Art, Space, and Social Inclusion

Join us for the launch of The Everyday Practice of Public Art: Art, Space and Social Inclusion, an anthology edited by Associate Professor, Dr. Cameron Cartiere and Martin Zebracki.

The book contains contributions from artists, curators, activists, writers and educators from North America, Europe and Australia—including members of the Emily Carr community, such as Justin Langlois (Associate Professor), Susan Stewart (Dean, Faculty of Culture + Community) and Elisa Yon (MAA alumna). The collection examines the evolution of public art, moving beyond monuments and memorials to focus on the development of socially engaged public art practice.

The Great British Columbia Shake Out DRILL

The Great British Columbia Shake Out

On Thursday, October 15th, at 10:15am, Emily Carr University will participate in The Great British Columbia Shake Out drill, the largest single earthquake drill of its kind in BC.

What to do:

At 10:15am you will be asked to DROP to the ground, take COVER & HOLD ON! Hold that position for 1 minute. 

If you are in a hallway or don't have access to a desk or table, go to an interior wall away from glass, and crouch forward with your head down towards your legs, and covering your head and neck with your hands.

In consideration of the land on which we work and the places we cultivate in and around campus, The Commons will explore notions of land and place in relation to our current and future campuses.

The Glamour of Zhongshan - Chinese Zhongshan Watercolour Painting Exhibition

Opening reception: Sunday August 16, 2015 3:30pm Exhibition dates: August 16 - 20, 2015 11am-5pm daily Chinese Cultural Centre Museum, 555 Columbia Street, Vancouver, B.C. V6A 4H5 http://cccmuseum.blogspot.ca/ Watercolor originates from the West. While the Chinese are fond of the watercolor because it bears some natural resemblance to the traditional Chinese ink and wash painting. In Zhongshan, there are a group of artists with high-level artistic education who are immersed themselves in the creation of watercolor. This exhibition includes about 50 works from 22 painters in Zhongshan, China. The delegation includes such painters from Zhongshan Watercolor Academy as Zhao Ming, Xiao Wei, Liao Xuejun, Yang Ning, and Wen Junbo.

unsupervised | Summer Teens Exhibition

Join us for the opening of unsupervised, an exhibition of sculpture, textiles, drawing, painting, photography, architecture, illustration, animation and communication design.

The culmination of our Summer Institute for Teens program, the exhibition is open to the public and features work from over 100 accomplished young artists.

Studio Visit with Rachael Ashe | The Leeway

Rachael Ashe, paper-cutting artist and latest recipient of The Leeway Studio Residency, will be hosting an open studio on Saturday, June 6. Join us to hear about Rachael's work, to tour The Leeway studio space and meet fellow artists and art enthusiasists.

The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP required.
