The Great British Columbia Shake Out DRILL

The Great British Columbia Shake Out

On Thursday, October 15th, at 10:15am, Emily Carr University will participate in The Great British Columbia Shake Out drill, the largest single earthquake drill of its kind in BC.

What to do:

At 10:15am you will be asked to DROP to the ground, take COVER & HOLD ON! Hold that position for 1 minute.

If you are in a hallway or don't have access to a desk or table, go to an interior wall away from glass, and crouch forward with your head down towards your legs, and covering your head and neck with your hands.

Lucy Skaer | Audain Distinguished Artist-in-Residence Talk + Reception

We welcome Scottish artist Lucy Skaer as our Fall 2015 Audain Distinguished Artist-in-Residence.

Primarily working with sculpture and drawing, Skaer’s practice encompasses a wide variety of materials and methods. Engaging with both traditional and contemporary manufacturing processes, her sculptures evoke the sense of a half-remembered history still present in the world around us. Deeply engaged with the materiality and providence of objects, Skaer’s work hovers between recognizable forms and abstracted symbols, drawing the viewer into unravelling narrative associations.

Draw Down Vancouver

The Leeway Studio will host a collaborative drawing workshop with Vancouver paper artist Rachael Ashe as part of Draw Down Vancouver. Rachael will be facilitating the workshop with guest artist Christina Norberg. Together, along with Vancouver Draw Down participants, they will create a large scale drawing using intricate marks and gestures to see how working small, and working as a group can create something substantial. Participants will use a variety of mark-making materials  and experience working collaboratively in a communal studio.
