Join Fillip and Vancouver–based writer Nathan Crompton on Saturday, November 18, at 2pm for a seminar-style discussion on the writings of postwar Italian architecture critic Manfredo Tafuri.

In his Architecture and Utopia (1973), Tafuri developed a neo-Marxist critique of twentieth century architectural modernism, raising questions about the apparent stability of postwar architecture and its politics of utopian reification. In response to the architecture of the welfare state, Tafuri develops a theoretically complex critique of the city that places urban development on a background of class conflict and political antagonism.
