The Business of Art

This course introduces you to basic professional skills that will be integral in your pursuit of a career in the visual arts. This course is focused on the business of art practice: record keeping, seeking representation and exhibition, pricing, marketing, publicity and legal considerations. You will work on creating a basic business plan, as well as core portfolio materials and will learn the basics of sourcing financial, space, equipment and other professional resources.

The London Art Book Fair | Emily Carr University Press and Charles H. Scott Gallery Publications

Hosted by the Whitechapel Gallery, The London Art Book Fair celebrates the best of international contemporary art publishing. This year’s event is comprised of 95 international publishing houses, book dealers and distributors, and is presented in partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts, bringing a selection of nine Canadian presses, distributors, independent publishers and editions-makers to the UK for the first time. Emily Carr University Press and Charles H. Scott Gallery Publications are one of only nine Canadian art publishers chosen to represent Canada at the event.

The event takes place from September 26 to 28, 2014.

Emily Carr University Press and Charles H. Scott Gallery Publications attend the ninth annual New York Art Book Fair, presented by Printed Matter. Free and open to the public, the NY Art Book Fair is the world’s premier event for artists’ books, catalogues, monographs, periodicals and zines. Last year the fair featured nearly 300 booksellers, antiquarians, artists and independent publishers from 26 countries, and was attended by more than 27,000 people.
