The Cinematheque and S3D Centre at Emily Carr University of Art + Design present an evening of adventurous stereoscopic 3D cinema from artists in B.C. and Alberta, showcased in a special program of four short films and one feature.

Interviews with Alan Goldman, S3D Centre at Emily Carr, and directors Benavente Fortes, Jordan Dowler-Coltman, Jason Karman, Sean Arden, and Dylan Pearce.

The Contemporary Art Gallery presents Walking a Line, a series of collaborative drawing experiences for all ages, created by students as part of Community, Collaboration and Pedagogy, a studio course with Emily Carr University of Art + Design hosted by CAG.

UnBecoming: An Annotated Exhibition by Elizabeth MacKenzie

Artist Elizabeth MacKenzie presents a new series of large-scale, drawing-based digital prints investigating the problematics of self-portraiture, along with two additional installations that annotate her creative process within the development of this work.

Studio visits with a number of artist colleagues, from a variety of backgrounds, are crucial to MacKenzie’s process. These conversations will move into the gallery within a series of three public programs, noted below. This continuing dialogue will be documented within the artist’s blog.

Sarah Davidson ('15) is featured in a solo exhibition, The Scrap Collector, at Gam Gallery from September 10 to October 15, 2016.  

Deborah Koenker | Grapes and Tortillas at Kelowna Art Gallery

A solo exhibition by former Associate Professor Deborah Koenker is currently showing at the Kelowna Art Gallery through October 30.  Titled Grapes and Tortillas,  this exhibition focuses on the Okanagan Valley’s Mexican seasonal workers, celebrating their hard work, their contribution to the Canadian economy, and their dedication to their families—from whom they are separated for long periods. These men and women, in British Columbia under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP), provide low-cost work in the area’s greenhouses, farms, vineyards, and orchards for up to eight months of every year.

Carmen Cartiere | Community made public art to be unveiled at Bridgeport Industrial Park

A temporary public art installation entitled Blackberry/Butterfly Net will be revealed on Saturday, August 13, at Bridgeport Industrial Park. The new artwork, by artist Sharon Kallis, uses blackberry fibre rope made by community members who participated in a series of artist-led workshops in July and August.

Associate Professor David MacWilliam and Professor Landon Mackenzie will present the Joe Plaskett and Nancy Petry Awards for 2016 on May 14, 2016, from 3 to 4pm at Equinox Gallery.

This exhibition presents the work of Associate Professor Lucie Chan and Jérôme Havre, whose practices employ immersive multi-media installations to explore the transient nature of human connections, communities and territories in an era of cosmopolitanism.

Cosmopolitanism is the view that all human beings are world citizens with responsibilities that extend beyond national borders and imposed borders. Both artists address liminality and space (both psychological and physical) through visual and spatial play bringing to light relationships between people environments, particularly within situations of social transformation.
