ie, gallery | IN THIS WE ARE ARRIVED

In this we are arrived features objects and artworks that have made the journey to Vancouver as a by-product of individuals relocating to pursue either an MAA or MFA program.

Graduate students from Emily Carr, UBC, and SFU have provided objects of transnational origin. These relocated items form a collection of value, activating reminiscence as we adjust to this new psychic geography known as Vancouver, the site of our creative dialogues at the graduate level.

(Idiom)
In theory,
as opposed to actual performance
or fact:
refers to a quality
that an idea, plan or person
seems to have when you read about them,
but which might not show the real
or complete situation.

Lynn Price is a fourth year visual arts student working in drawing, painting and installation. Her practice is an inquiry into the nature of perception and memory through repetition and accumulation. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in May 2013.

Fuck you, I'm happy

We temper, we realize, we saunter, we circulate. We find, we color, we contemplate, we explode. We meditate, we wander, we whimsy, we wake. We love, we loathe, we wonder, we forget. We loose, we erase, we swim, we implode. We close, we open. We accept, we listen. We refuse, we excuse. We stop, we reject. We close, we open, we pause, and we say... fuck you, I’m happy.

Fuck you, I'm happy comes from a significant, yet anonymous source. We want to thank them for their contribution.

Neon Jungle (1 of 3), Roshanak Amini, Sara Bartisch, Ji Yun Min and Madelaine Mongey.

Fifteen students from a third year drawing studio summer course were asked by their instructor to create collaborative drawings, incentivized by a final installation and week-long exhibition.

The assignment was developed in the interest of a pedagogical practice, which highlights drawing as a dynamic and evolving practice, and encourages collective participatory creative acts. The parameters for this project included working simultaneously or in tandem, relinquishing control of a singular voice, merging aesthetic sensibilities and producing a final work that carries both narrative possibilities and visual cohesion.
