ECU remains the only Canadian university to rank among the top 50 for art and design worldwide.

For the fifth consecutive year, Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECU) has been ranked the top university in Canada for art and design according to the QS World University rankings, the largest global survey of academic and employer reputation.

“ECU’s prominence as a world-class university is not just a reflection of our past accomplishments but a testament to our forward-looking vision to shape a better world through art and design,” says Trish Kelly, President + Vice-Chancellor at ECU. “We gather every day to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers. This community’s extraordinary commitment to that project, within the university and beyond, is why we remain a leader in art and design education.”

ECU ranks 29th worldwide for art and design and 13th in North America. It remains the only Canadian university ranked among the top 50 globally. ECU’s continued presence in the annual QS postsecondary roundup places it in the company of celebrated institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), CalArts and the Royal College of Arts.

The annual report from UK-based analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) assesses universities based on academic and employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratios and research outputs.
