M365 Office for Faculty and Staff

What is M365?

Microsoft 365 Office (formerly known as Office 365) brings together premium apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote with 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage for each end-user.

ITS will remotely install M365 apps on your Emily Carr University device. You can install the apps on your personal device as well.

Who can use M365?

Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365) is available and accessible by all active Emily Carr University faculty and staff who have a university email address.

How to sign in to M365 online

Sign in by going to Microsoft 365

1. Select Sign In.

On the Sign-in page enter your MyEC username in username@ecuad.ca format.

2. Next, on the SSO (Single Sign-On) page, enter your MyEC password .
Make sure you enter your MyEC password, not your email password! Then click Sign In.

3. You are now logged in to M365!

How to download M365 to your non ECU computer

You can download Office 365 applications to your Mac or PC.

1. Sign into Microsoft

2. Find the "Install apps" dropdown menu located in the top right corner.

3. Click on "Install Office".

How to use M365 on your mobile phone

You can download and install the free mobile Office apps from the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), or Windows Store (Windows Phone).

Once you have downloaded them, you will be prompted to sign in with your MyEC credentials the first time you launch the app.

      FAQs

      Can I access M365 on shared lab computers?

      Yes. On Windows computers you can sign in to the M365 applications. On Macs please use the browser version of the applications to see your own files.

      I'm having trouble logging in.

      To log in to the M365 applications online, faculty and staff must use their MyEC username followed by @ecuad.ca, along with your MyEC password.

      Does the M365 service come with any cloud storage?

      Once you enroll in the M365 services, you will have access to up to 1TB of storage on OneDrive.

      How can I install M365 on my university-managed device?

      Microsoft 365 applications should be pre-installed or automatically installed on your device.

      If you do not have M365 apps on your Windows device please visit the IT Service Desk for assistance.

      If you do not have access on your Mac device you may install from the Mac Software Centre or contact our assigned devices experts in IT Service Desk.

      How many devices can I install M365 on?

      Each subscription license allows you to install M365 on up to five devices including computers, tablets and smartphones.

      Do students have access to M365 apps? Can I use it to share files with them?

      Yes, students have access to M365 apps. You can share folders and files with them using OneDrive. ITS recommends using this solution for document sharing as it is hosted in Canada.

      Will the migration to Microsoft 365 include Outlook Email & Calendar services?

      Can Outlook email & calendar features be integrated in Apple Mail?

      The native Mac Calendar app can be used. Please view our guide for how to setup Outlook email & calendar in Apple Mail.

      Is OneDrive intended to replace the shared drive?

      No, but we recommend using OneDrive for large files.

      Can Information Technology Services view our documents in OneDrive?

      No. ITS cannot view your files unless the files are shared with us. The ECU Global Administrator can, however, take over access permissions in the event of an emergency.

      Is there a benefit to working on the desktop application over the browser? Will edits be lost if there are two people editing simultaneously?

      Some features are excluded (advanced charts, macros, other). Edits generally can be done simultaneously.

      How secure is OneDrive if I use a non ECU computer and access OneDrive online?

      OneDrive security will depend on the security enabled on your non-ECU computer.

      During operation the app's files are also downloaded/uploaded unto the local hard disk. We recommend that you enable “disk encryption". We also recommend that you log off on your web browser when using public computers.
