Benefits Information

Depending on employee status, ECU employees are eligible for a range of benefits under our benefit plans. Your spouse and dependent children are also eligible for coverage under some of the benefit plans as soon as you become an eligible employee.

Basic Medical Coverage (Medical Services Plan)

In B.C., public health insurance is called the Medical Services Plan (MSP). It covers the cost of medically-necessary insured doctor services.

Extended Health + Dental Coverage (Pacific Blue Cross)

Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) is ECU’s benefits provider. If you have inquiries about your Extended Health or Dental coverage, please call 604-419-2000 or visit www.pac.bluecross.ca to access the plan member secure site.

Download PBC’s mobile app to your smartphone for convenient self-service including: look up detailed coverage; submit claims; check your coverage balances; check out their health kit to find health and wellness tips and tools; and use the Pharmacy Compass to compare the cost of prescription drugs and find a pharmacy location near you.


Claims Submission

Log in to your plan member secure site to submit claims online. You can also download the PBC mobile app for quick and convenient claim submission.

Claims must be submitted to PBC within 12 months from the date the expense was incurred. If your coverage terminates due to resignation, retirement, etc., your claims must be submitted to PBC within 90 days of termination of benefits.

    Employee + Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

    The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is a confidential and voluntary counselling support service that provides you and your family with the help you need to resolve a wide range of personal, work, health, or life issues. It is designed to help you and your eligible dependents with any personal challenges that affect your family life, your work life, or your general well-being. EFAP provides both short-term clinical counselling and work-life consultations to all eligible ECU employees and their dependent family members, at no cost to users.

    Professional Counselling + Support Services

    EFAP provides professional assistance for a wide range of issues including: personal and work-related stress; mental health concerns; depression and anxiety; crisis situations; relationships and family issues; childcare and parenting; eldercare concerns; workplace challenges; career advice; addictions; alcohol and drug misuse; legal advice; financial guidance; nutrition; physical well-being; and more.

    No Cost

    There is no cost to you or your eligible dependents to use EFAP. EFAP can provide a series of sessions with a professional and if you need more specialized or longer-term support, the professional can suggest an appropriate specialist or service that is best suited to your needs. While fees for these additional services are your responsibility, they may be covered by your provincial health plan or the ECU’s extended health benefits coverage.

    Confidentiality

    All EFAP services are confidential, within the limits of the law. This means that no one will ever know that you have used the program unless you choose to tell them. ECU is not informed of the identity of those using any of the EFAP services, including online services.
