site, sound, touch: Composing You, an interactive outdoor project, engages community park goers in a multitude of ways. An experiential sonic walk encompasses ephemeral moments of past, present and future in Beacon Hill Park, using personal mobile phones and GPS to locate plants hanging from designated trees. Sound and light will activate the moment plants are touched. A personal musical composition will be formed depending on individual navigation routes.

The sensory navigation brings individual reflective perspectives to place, movement and memory. Applying plants as energy conductor, it infuses nature and technology. The woven encounters between sites, objects and observers/performers evolve into a sequence of unforeseen inspirations and personal poetic narratives through time and space. It embraces the fluidity of change and chance inspired by John Cage’s musical innovations.

This exhibition is presented by Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and funded by City of Victoria’s Artist -in Residence program.
