description

A strategy based simulation videogame about evolution where you manage a colony of a unique creatures as they grow and breed, evolving as time goes by. Help them survive disasters, adapt to new climates, and find food and evolve to survive millions of years!

I wanted to create a video game that teaches evolution and natural selection as it seems like science is fighting a losing battle in a lot of schools these days. By wrapping it in a video game, the kids would be tricked into learning, of sorts, while presumably having fun as well. The game is a simulation that a fictional professor needs you to run in order to show how evolution and natural selection work. It's not exactly subtle, but subtle wasn't working in previous iterations. You manage a colony of Phylobytes as they breed, explore, and survive. There's no set goal beyond suiting your environment and surviving for as long as possible. There have been many video games about evolution before, but they were either far too simplistic or strayed into intelligent design as the player had too much influence over how the creatures turned out and allowed manual adjustments and tweaks at various stages. My game relies entirely on the random mutations and inherited traits and only allows the player to interfere in so much as they can choose which characters breed or which are put in danger. No more interference than a dictator would have, as opposed to the powers of a god.
