water wear

description

Water is a crucial element to our survival. Despite its important role in our lives, we often take it for granted. An ever growing problem associated with our consumption of water is the wasteful use of disposable water bottles. Water wear is a concept in rethinking the use of disposable water bottles by exploring the the ways that we wear water on our bodies.

Water wear is composed of two elements; a holster and a bottle grown from a gourd. Referencing a gun holster as a carrying device for water asks us to question both health and harms associated with disposable water bottles. The form of the water vessel is made to fit the form of the body. Looking at the way the Maori of New Zealand used gourds to transport water, I cast this form in plaster to grow a gourd into. This process results in a completely compostable vessel.
